6-Hour
If you have never been a notary public the 6 hour class is designed for you.
All new notaries public must complete the 6-hour mandatory education course. Upon successful completion of the class and exam you will receive your notary public commission. When it expires in 4 years you will then be eligible for the 3 hour refresher course.
If you are a renewing California notary public you are eligible to complete the 3-hour mandatory education course.
Please note: In order to be eligible you must take and pass the state exam prior to the expiration of your current term. You can take apply for your renewal up to 6 months prior to your commission expiration date. Renewing notaries who complete the mandatory education and/or pass the exam after their current commission expires must retake the 6-hour mandatory education course.
3-Hour (Coming Soon)
You must complete the course and pass the state exam before your current commission expires. If you complete the 3-hour course and pass the exam even one day after your current commission expires, you will be required to take the 6-hour course and submit the proof of completion certificate to the Secretary of State before your new commission will be issued.
Note: Renewing notaries may elect to complete either the 3-hour or the 6-hour course. Six-hour courses always fulfill the mandatory education requirement for new or renewing notaries.
